That Cry is still a Cry of Love

This chamber opera, starring Gabo Ferro, was composed by Gabriel Valverde responding to a commission from the National Arts Directorate of the Argentine Ministry of Culture, for the IV Iberoamerican Cycle of Contemporary Opera. Produced by the National University of Tres de Febrero, the work is based on texts from the Roland Barthes book "A Lover's Discourse Fragments" (Editions du Seuil, Paris, 1977).

It is a musical work that is also scenic and textual. A conception of form, in the interaction of verbal and non-verbal elements. Without dramatic argument, without a certain story to tell, it is a setting in time and space of the discursive. The discursive arises from the music, including the text from its essence and meaning, and in the temporality that music and text unravel in its evolution. The spatiality of these fragments carried by the staging finishes closing the structural circle of the work. Word and sound present the place of someone who speaks in himself, lovingly, in front of another (the loved object), who does not speak. The work is planned in eleven scenes, according to the following detail: 1) Introduction (00:43); 2) Abyss Yourself (08:35); 3) The Absent (12:25); 4) Interlude (15:46); 5) The Body of the Other (19:20); 6) The Astonished World / Inexpressible Love (23:25); 7) Interlude II (33:40); 8) The Wait (36:10); 9) Interlude III (40:10); 10) The Resonance / Uncertainty of the Signs (45:44); 12) The Unknowable (55:40). At the end of the video there is a brief interview with the author, those responsible for the production and the main protagonist.
